Panguaneta achieves major EU sustainability certification

Major plywood and wood materials supplier Panguaneta has received the ISCC EU Certification for renewable fuels used in energy generation.

The Italian company says attaining the certification ‘further strengthens its tangible commitment to tackling climate change, in full alignment with the European Green Deal, which sets the objective of climate neutrality by 2050 and reduction of at least a 55 per cent in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990 levels by 2030’.

Renewable energy plays a key role in helping companies comply with these targets – SCC EU is a certification scheme recognised by the European Commission for sustainable fuels, based on the sustainability and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission-reduction criteria defined by the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III).

The certification ensures compliance with traceability requirements across the biofuel supply chain, as well as with European provisions prohibiting the use of raw materials sourced from deforested areas.

To achieve the certification, companies must show compliance with the following principles: protection of land with high biodiversity value or high carbon stock; environmentally responsible production to protect soil, water and air; safe working conditions; compliance with human and labour rights and responsible community relations; compliance with land rights, laws and international treaties; and good management practices and continuous improvement.

A statement by Panguaneta said: “This milestone reflects the long-standing commitment that guides our daily work: reducing emissions, making responsible use of production residues, and supporting a more circular and efficient use of resources.

“Achieving ISCC certification strengthens our determination to keep raising our standards and to play an active role in building a healthier planet for future generations.”
