The open-air tourism summer season in Spain has been declared a success by the Federación Española de Campings (FEEC) after it announced that campsites recorded an average occupancy close to 90 per cent during July and August.
The news was even better for the mobile home industry, with bungalows recording an occupancy close to 100 per cent for the summer months in Spain, while camping pitches were around 80 per cent.
While in line with forecasts for the 2026 season, it is particularly good news for Spain and the industry as a whole given the trouble with wildfires experienced in the country for much of the summer. Much of the success can be attributed to very strong advance bookings, according to FEEC.
“This summer’s results confirm the positive forecasts we had made and demonstrate that camping continues to establish itself as one of the preferred options for enjoying a holiday,” said FEEC President Ana Beriain.
As September approaches, FEEC is forecasting more success for the industry, given the trend for this month to be popular among tourists due to lower temperatures and fewer crowds.
Ana Beriain continued: “September is becoming an increasingly important month for our campsites. The aim is to continue offering an attractive range of options throughout the year and to harness the potential of our destinations to generate tourist activity in a more balanced way.”
