Trigano strengthens presence in mobile home industry with BIO Habitat acquisition

Trigano, a European leader in recreational vehicles and leisure equipment, has announced the acquisition of 100 per cent of the share capital and voting rights of BIO Habitat and its subsidiary BIO Habitat Italia.

BIO Habitat, previously part of the Bénétrau Group, is a leader in the mobile home market with brands including O’Hara, IRM, and Coco Sweet in its stable. It employs around 900 people across seven different production sites in France and Italy and reported a turnover of €319.6 million in 2023.

In an official release, Trigano stated that ‘the transaction is in line with Trigano’s development strategy on this dynamic segment of the leisure vehicles and equipment market. It offers synergies, particularly in purchasing, logistics and manufacturing processes, and will enable Trigano to consolidate its leadership in the European leisure vehicle industry’.

The acquisition will further strengthen Trigano’s manufacturing and logistical capabilities across Europe and also complement the company’s existing mobile home portfolio, which currently includes the brands Adria Home, Trigano Résidences, and Trigano HPA.

The French Competition Authority has given the acquisition the green light, affirming that Trigano’s enhanced market position will not impede competition. The mobile home market remains robustly competitive, with three other major operators – two of which have recently expanded their production capacities – ensuring a balanced playing field.

In an exclusive interview with Mobile Home Business, Trigano CEO Stéphane Gigou revealed: “Three years ago, Trigano made a strategic decision to develop the mobile home sector, with the ambition of becoming the European leader. Initially, we launched a plan to expand production capacity at our existing facilities. Later, the opportunity arose to acquire the mobile home division of Bio Habitat from the Beneteau group. After a 20-month wait imposed by the Competition Authority – a period I consider incompatible with running a business – we finally received the green light to proceed with the acquisition. Since December 2024, Bio Habitat has officially been a subsidiary of Trigano.

“Today, we have three production hubs in the mobile home sector: Résidences Trigano, the historic brand, primarily active in France and Spain; Adria Home, operating in the Adriatic area and exporting to Austria, Germany, and the Benelux; and Bio Habitat, headquartered in France, with a factory in Bologna, Italy, and an export network to Spain and the Benelux. Bio Habitat is already the European leader in the sector, so its presence is widespread across Europe.

“Our strategy is clear: to create industrial and sourcing synergies between these hubs, optimize production processes, and improve our ability to offer competitive products on the market. This industrial and sourcing work will be carried out while maintaining different brands in the market, offering distinct and competing product ranges, similar to how Trigano operates in the motorhome sector.”
